Principal, 2000 - December 2017:

  • Internal subject matter expert at the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD); invented the first ever CSG called Solar Shares.

  • Four years as the full time technical support contractor for the California Energy Commission (CEC); program manager for $15 million in renewable energy R&D projects including wind, biomass, solar and BIPV products now being sold worldwide.

  • 20 MW 2-axis tracking PV client. Various other CIGS PV contracts recently completed.

  • Investment advisor on multiple China-based PV manufacturing facilities in Shanghai and Beijing for Merrill Lynch.

SRA International

Principal, Title: "Renewable Energy Champion", May 2010 – February 2016:

  • Subject matter expert advising the Department of Energy, Sandia National Labs and Oak Ridge National Labs on business models, California's Rule 21, smart grid (Maui), storage, PV, and concentrating solar power. Wrote the testing standard for the advanced functionality of solar electric inverters and electrical storage with the Sandia team.

  • Championed the successful Renewable Energy Development Team (REDT) for the state of Colorado's Governor's Energy Office. Program manager and supervisor for the on-time, profitable REDT contract. REDT reduced government regulations, performed resource assessments, evaluated feasibility, and obtained private funding for renewable energy projects in Colorado including wind, biomass, small hydro and new Community Solar Gardens (CSG).

  • Achieved the streamlining of small hydro permitting in Colorado under a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) pilot program. This highly recognized replicated project eliminated two years of permitting time for small hydro in the United States.

  • Advisor with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for distributed energy from renewables on contaminated lands, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

  • Established new Golden Colorado SRA office. Hired new people, supervisor for up to 6 people supporting renewable energy programs. Achieved Principal status.

Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc.

Executive Vice President of Business Development, January 2007 – April 2010:

  • C-level executive for the publicly traded company.

  • Owned all contractual and management activities relating to business development including Business Plan, Product Development Plans, Joint Development Agreements, Cooperative Agreements, Purchase Orders, Letters of Intent (LOI) and Supply Agreements.

  • Working with strategic customers emphasizing use of lightweight flexible copper indium gallium selenium photovoltaics (CIGS PV) for building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). Developed award winning window shading device integrated with photovoltaics (PV).

  • Supervisory and leadership role for marketing and sales staff. Owned dozens of high performing customer relationships, 67 MW of supply agreements and extensive LOI’s awaiting a BIPV product certification.

  • Owned promotions, marketing, bankability and go-to-market strategies.

  • Efforts raised significant funds in 2007 ($69M), 2008 ($61M) & 2009 ($33M) stock offerings, plus federal R&D funding.

  • Active involvement with BOD, stockholders, and three CEO's.
